Glass
- The original lens
material, glass is not ordered frequently due to its weight and inferior safety
protection.
Plastic
- At half
the weight of glass, plastic can be tinted to almost any color. It is more
impact resistant than glass.
High Index Plastic
- Thinner and lighter--it is a good
choice for higher prescriptions.
Polycarbonate
- The most impact
resistant material available. It is a good choice for children and active
adults. These lenses absorb all harmful UV light and can be made ultra thin
due to their strength. These lenses always include a scratch protection coating.
They can be tinted.
Photochromatic
- Available in glass
or lightweight plastic these lenses darken and lighten as one goes inside
and outside.
Progressive Addition
- Called "no-line" bifocals they
provide continuous clear vision at all distances. These are a great improvement
to older lined bifocal and trifocal lenses.
Polarized
- The best type of sun lens for water activities and
daytime driving. The lenses eliminate glare and brightness while protecting
the eyes from harmful UV light.
Occupational
- There are a variety of lenses that are "task
specific" for your profession.
Lens Treatments
Scratch
Protection Coating - Lightweight plastic lenses
can be more easily scratched than glass lenses. This coating has been designed
to make lenses more resistant to scratching.
UV
Protection - An invisible filter for plastic lenses
that protect the eyes from harmful UV light.
AntiReflection
Coating - Effective for reducing eye fatigue for
computer operators and for driving at night. AR coated lenses enhance vision
by removing all distracting reflections and glare. This coating makes your
eyeglass lenses look invisible, allowing others to see your eyes without reflections.
Tint
- Available in a wide array of colors and shades. A
tint can be used to reduce brightness or as a fashion accessory. Tints can
be a solid color, gradient color fading to clear, or multiple colors fading
into each other.
Mirror
Coating - Can be added to sunglass lenses to significantly
cut down brightness or prevent others from seeing your eyes.
Edge
Polish - A high gloss polish of the edges of lenses
to give them a rich finished look.
